Case Study: Workforce Management Solution Supports Smart Meter Rollout

During the technology evaluation stage, CHED Services recognized an opportunity to derive further benefits from the launch of a proven enterprise workforce management system.

In addition to enabling the long and short-term planning, scheduling and dispatching of work to the field, the solution necessary to support the regulatory compliance requirement would also need to enable the capture of data to reconcile meter information in host systems. Host system information would be facilitated through the communication backbone that triggers monitoring of realtime demand and support the transfer of reads back to the customers and retailers.

While the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) installation was viewed as "greenfields and compliant" for Powercor and CitiPower, the management of its ongoing historical meter replacement program has been manual. It was this and the management of electricity network faults that were the two field activities that would be most impacted as a result of the AMI installation program.
