Unstructured Information… Quiet Killer Or Profit Opportunity?

What information makes an organization run? Some of the most important information is data collected by your financial, ERP and HR systems. After all, these systems manage your cash flow, and your product and human assets. Most likely, your organization has spent years and lots of dollars figuring this out. But did you know that this information only represents 20% of the information that your organization needs to operate?

The bulk of information (over 80%) is in a form that doesn't reside in a database—it resides in email messages, spreadsheets, Word documents, presentation slides, drawings, graphics, specifications and more recently blogs, discussions, tweets, and video and audio files.

This is called "unstructured" information because it doesn't get quantified, tallied or stored in a database for analysis.
