The Providence Center Medical Records Go Electronic

This mental health and behavioral treatment center integrated DocuWare to create completely electronic medical records. With electronic records available 24/7, staff are assured that a medical record will always be available, even after hours.

The Providence Center is a mental health and substance use treatment center serving adults and children throughout Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts who are affected by psychiatric illnesses, emotional problems and addictions. The Center provides treatment and support services within a community setting at four treatment sites, one school and 11 residential locations.

The Providence Center provides mental health services around the clock. However, its paper-based medical records could only be accessed from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Records needed to be requested in advance of appointments and were physically delivered to The Providence Center's various locations. Records that were missing, misfiled, or with another service provider were a hindrance to providing day-to-day quality care to clients.

Applied Microimage Corporation, an Authorized DocuWare Partner, assisted The Providence Center with the implementation and integration of DocuWare as the electronic document repository portion of its information management system.
