RFID Document Management: RFID-Based Document Management Now Plug-and-Play Capable

While RFID is perhaps not regarded as a plug-and-play technology, thanks to the efforts of the Austria-based technology consulting and software company RF-iT Solutions, it is far down the road to getting there. "RFID solutions need to be both technically feasible and economically attractive. Only then do companies have enough incentive to implement such solutions, and only then can rapid market penetration be expected. The more easily RFID components are able to be integrated with existing processes, the better the results," Dominik Berger, general manager of RF-iT Solutions, points out. With their in-depth knowledge of processes and products, the experts from Graz work together closely with customers and components suppliers to the end of realizing economically feasible solutions within a wide range of industries. In the automotive and textile segments, RF-iT Solutions are already regarded as market leaders in the industry Europe-wide.

Document management saves time and money

The document management system, which is RFID-based, is an example of a product that is by no means new, yet has been recently rendered plug-and-play capable. This software is used in private businesses, medical and legal offices as well as by public administration to search for and locate filed documents. An existing Ethernet network together with RF-iT Solutions' intelligent software are all that is needed to be able to implement a document management solution that is, thanks to the You-R RFID Lan Reader with integrated LAN hub, both user-friendly and compatible with existing applications. The Lan Reader is a terminal that runs independently of network PCs, so that the document tracing solution is available even when all PCs have been shut down, while additionally ensuring the highest possible level of data security. The unit is supplied in a case that allows it to be either wall-mounted or used as a desktop reader. It supports MIFARE und ICODE tags. Transponders may, for instance, be embedded in the covers of file folders.

The right software is the key

The You-R Lan Reader has also been completely integrated in the You-R OPEN RFID-OPerating-ENvironment, a platform for system integrators. The scalable software offers a number of features that very effectively meet users' needs: a high reading rate; complex communications capabilities; extremely simple on-site processes, including optimized human-machine interfaces; and a remote reader/device manager and monitoring system that can be operated from central control points throughout the network. This guarantees the kind of flexibility required for quickly reaping the benefits expected from optimization processes. In combination with the knowledge of the experts at RF-iT, the You-R OPEN OPerating-ENvironment makes it possible to achieve fully operative, scalable solutions within a short time. And ready-made "building blocks" make any further programming unnecessary when adapting You-R OPEN to individual customer requirements. For system integrators, entry into the world of RFID is snag-free, so that they are immediately able to concentrate on the process and the particular application issues at hand, in this way focusing on added value for the customer.
