Records Management: Vital Path Announces Content Virtualization And In-Place Records Management Capabilities

Vital Path, a leader in content integration solutions, recently announced PathBuilder's extended solutions to provide organizations ‘in-place' records management and content virtualization. The solutions allow organizations to continue to manage content at the line of business and departmental level while managing records at the enterprise level, thus leveraging current IT investment and legacy systems.

Vital Path's PathBuilder enables organizations to expose content stored in other repositories to Open Text's Livelink ECM – Records Management. Using bi-directional communications, PathBuilder enables federated activities in the enterprise, such as search, e-discovery and in-place records management. Because of the close business and technical relationship between Vital Path and Open Text, this is done with little or no impact on the business process and at the same time mitigates risk.

Open Text is a recognized worldwide leader in records management, offering a complete range of solutions for enterprise-wide records management, including new records management applications for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and SAP applications. Content virtualization, another extension of PathBuilder, is also known as short cuts, referencing or stubs, and allows users in Open Text systems access to content is a different system, without leaving their "home" system. PathBuilder creates an icon in a convenient location in Livelink ECM that links to content in a remote repository. Once created, references look and feel like any other Livelink ECM content.

PathBuilder is an out-of-the-box content integration product specifically for unstructured content such as documents, spreadsheets and emails. PathBuilder helps companies quickly and easily integrate diverse content repositories by providing a gateway to the various ECM applications. Using a simple interface, PathBuilder can migrate, synchronize and virtualize content, as well as enable federated searching and in place records management.
