Radian™ Bare Fiber Polisher For Laboratory, R&D, And Low-Volume Manufacturing

7 - Radian™ Bare Fiber Polisher

Radian™ polishes bare fiber, rods, or bundles at variable angles, with interchangeable adapters and swap-in workholders for connector polishing (flat, UPC, angled).

The Radian™ Bare Fiber Polisher offers a unique combination of high-speed processing and precision control, bridging the gap between manual fiber prep and automated production. Engineered for maximum versatility, the system features a robust rotary stage that provides user-selectable angle control from 0 degrees (flat) to 50 degrees, with a typical repeatability of 0.5 degrees. This flexibility makes the Radian™ an essential tool for R&D efforts involving specialty fiber types, glass rods, lenses, and complex optical bundles. The system utilizes a 4-inch diameter film and a random orbital polishing motion to ensure uniform surface quality across a variety of material types and fiber diameters.

Beyond its primary function as a bare fiber tool, the Radian™ is designed for rapid reconfiguration to support a broad range of industry-standard and custom connectors. By interchanging the rotary stage with specialized workholders, the system can process ferrules and connectors to Flat, UPC, and Angled geometries. This multi-platform capability allows laboratories to maintain a minimal equipment footprint while supporting diverse project requirements. User-adjustable speed controls allow the polishing process to be optimized for specific materials, ensuring that even delicate or non-standard optical components are handled with the necessary care.

The Radian™ system is built to provide production-level performance in a compact, accessible package. Its ability to reference angles directly off the fiber diameter such as the 8° required for APC-style finishes ensures that even low-volume manufacturing runs meet the high technical standards of the photonics industry. Whether you are developing new sensing protocols, polishing high-power laser delivery fibers, or performing quick repairs on standard connectors, the Radian™ offers a reliable and cost-effective solution for any high-precision optical surface processing task.
