To The Victors Go The Spoils At Annual OnBase Training & Technology Conference

Imagine. You choose an ECM solution for your organization. It increases your revenue by helping you to secure more customers. It decreases your costs by eliminating the need for storage space. It improves the satisfaction of your customers as it allows you to deliver better, more timely service. The boss is happy. You're the hero. Life is good. But wait, it gets better. You and your organization are recognized, in Las Vegas, no less, with an award for having been so successful. This was the scenario for many of the twelve organizations honored at the recent OnBase Training & Technology Conference.

"It's gratifying to see such a wide variety of industries using our solution," said Bill Priemer, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Hyland Software. "We work hard to build expertise in each market. It allows us to develop solutions that help our more than 7,400 worldwide customers be more successful. This year's RealSolutions award winners exemplify what OnBase is doing for organizations the world over."

The 2008 RealSolutions award winners by category (in alphabetical order) are as follows:

Application Integration: Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company - Grinnell, Iowa - (https://www.gmrc.com) This Iowa-based reinsurer uses OnBase to make the mutual reporting review process quicker and more efficient. Duplicate data entry is a thing of the past and errors have been significantly reduced. Today, employees are doing more with less and better serving their 280 insurer customers in 11 states.

Financial Services: Whatcom Educational Credit Union - Bellingham, Washington - (http://www.wecu.com) This credit union - where customer service is the number one priority - is singing OnBase's praises. By taking the paper out of the process, loans and member documents are processed faster and cheaper. Increased member satisfaction and thousands of dollars in storage cost savings are bound to bring joy.

Government: Arlington County, Virginia - Arlington, Virginia - (http://www.arlingtonva.us) County governments work hard to use tax dollars wisely. Ask the leaders of this urban county - which is located near Washington D.C. - if they'd choose OnBase again and you'll hear a resounding, "Yes!" Residents now enjoy easy access to community services. Plus, getting information is user-friendly. For instance, there are now kiosks where residents can apply for e-marriage licenses. Besides improving customer service, the county now benefits from less overhead and fewer mistakes.

Healthcare: Cleveland Clinic - Cleveland, Ohio - (http://www.ccf.org) This top U.S. News and World Report hospital is using OnBase to improve patient care. Health care professionals need access to lots of information to provide the best, most timely care possible. But keeping track of all of the various documents, from all of the various sources, is a challenge. By integrating OnBase with Epic, millions of electronic medical record (EMR) documents are now instantly available to more than 17,000 users at the point-of-care.

Higher Education: Columbia University Mailman Graduate School of Public Health - New York, New York -(http://www.mailman.hs.columbia.edu) This top ten public health graduate school - according to U.S. News and World Report - was facing a bit of a challenge. How do they efficiently review the more than 1,800 applications to fill the 340 open spots each year? The answer - OnBase. The average time to reach a decision on each applicant has been reduced by nearly 40 percent. Another benefit of electronic content is reduced storage costs. This is especially important to Columbia, which is located in an area where the cost of square footage is astronomical.

Insurance: The Accident Fund Insurance Company of America - Lansing, Michigan - (http://www.accidentfund.com) The tenth largest writer of workers compensation insurance in the country asked their employees for comments about OnBase. Things like speed, no more lost files, knowing where things are and no more copying files or distributing paper mail were common responses. One customer service representative perhaps said it best, "We can now call up the information needed to support our customers in seconds." Answers like this explain why cycle times have decreased while customer service scores have increased.

Manufacturing:Gallatin Steel - Ghent, Kentucky - (http://www.gallatinsteel.com) This safety focused steel producer attributes significant successes to OnBase. It has saved tens of thousands of dollars on storage space. It has increased employee productivity by an estimated 100 hours - each month. Most noteworthy is that Gallatin has gone more than 2 million hours without a lost time injury. This is largely because employees now have immediate access to safety policies. Today, employees can do their jobs faster - and more safely - because of OnBase.

OTTC Award: Macomb County Friend of the Court - Detroit, Michigan - (http://www.macombcountymi.gov) This metro Detroit county uses OnBase to make the best use of its nearly 1 million residents' tax dollars. Thanks to features called virtual print driver and workflow, the county projected a 330 percent return on investment - in just one year.

Other Industry Solution: American Tire Distributors - Huntersville, North Carolina - (http://www.americantiredistributors.com) This tire distributor uses OnBase to get the right information to the right employees. No small feat when you're a company with 79 distribution centers nationwide. OnBase has grown with the business, too. It now plays a role in every department at the headquarters of this $2 billion company.

Return on Investment: American Public University System - Manassas, Virginia - (http://www.apus.edu) The majority of this distance learning school's active military students bring transfer credits. Its paper intensive transfer credit evaluation process was taking a long time. So long, in fact, that hundreds of students each month were forced to enroll elsewhere - or risk missing the start of classes. Losing students - and revenue - the university enlisted OnBase. Today, 75 percent of those previously not registering for courses are now enrolling. Including the storage and labor savings, the university projects a cost savings in the millions of dollars.

Web Technologies:MMA - Goshen, Indiana - (http://www.mma-online.org) Because they help people and groups in 22 states combine their finances and values, MMA needed its remote employees to have access to client information - they got it, and more, with OnBase. Because documents are no longer printed and mailed, they save $50,000 annually in postage costs alone. Most importantly, they are now able to better - and faster - serve their customers.

Workflow: Mitsui Sumitomo Seguros - Sao Paulo, Brazil -(http://www.ms-seg.com.br) This Brazilian insurer had an aggressive sales goal - increase sales through retail brokers and the commercial channel by 30 percent - and used OnBase to help get it there. Within months, workflow cut cycle times in half and tripled processing capacity - without adding new staff. The global company is so pleased with the results that it is planning to bring OnBase to several other departments.
