OnBase By Hyland VNA Deployed At The MetroHealth System

OnBase VNA provides enterprise-wide secure access to DICOM and non-DICOM content, supporting comprehensive patient records

Cleveland, OH /PRNewswire/ - Hyland and The MetroHealth System collaborated to develop and deploy a robust clinical content strategy that consolidates existing picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and vendor neutral archive (VNA) content into the OnBase by Hyland single enterprise information platform. This initial solution is part of a comprehensive, enterprise-wide approach to create a single, central repository for all clinical, administrative and financial content.

The OnBase VNA provides MetroHealth with a single storage platform that standardizes and centralizes medical imaging studies and other patient data from multiple vendor PACS, eliminating the need for additional systems. By deploying a VNA solution built on the OnBase platform, MetroHealth leverages core enterprise content management technologies to make both DICOM and non-DICOM content available, enabling a complete patient record.

"Together with Hyland, we are simplifying and removing the walls of data with OnBase, giving everyone more time to focus on delivering superior care," said Donald Reichert, vice president and chief information officer at The MetroHealth System.

In some healthcare organizations, patient files that originate in radiology or cardiology are stored in their respective imaging departments. An important component to the MetroHealth OnBase VNA solution was to provide authorized clinicians and staff with secure and immediate access to information in a logical and supportive format, avoiding a need to dig for information and lose valuable patient face time.

"I'm proud to say that we are accelerating our ability to better forecast and drive funds elsewhere in the MetroHealth organization to make our system even better for our employees and the population," Reichert said. "Our OnBase solution will effectively eliminate the nearly $1 million spent annually in storage."

The OnBase VNA also offers clinicians and administrators capabilities like workflow and automated retention policies for content. Hyland and MetroHealth addressed storage issues by taking an architectural look at data, determining that as information ages, it will move from a priority-one tier storage solution. Furthermore, dated or expired information will automatically be destroyed and officially removed, which keeps the most recent information fresh. It also mitigates any risks of information remaining discoverable after passing its relevant lifecycle and acts as an extra level of security for even the most sensitive of images.

"At Hyland, we continue to evolve our healthcare focused solutions to support the strategic initiatives of our customers," said Susan deCathelineau, vice president, global healthcare sales and services at Hyland. "With OnBase VNA, MetroHealth now has a scalable, economical solution that provides a roadmap to meet its growing storage needs, better access to information and lower costs."
