Murchison Defiba Upgrades Its Container Terminal To A ‘Smart Port' With Solutions From Zebra

Argentinian port company increases operational efficiency by digitalizing workflows

Zebra Technologies Corporation, an innovator at the front line of business with solutions and partners that deliver a performance edge, today announced that Murchison Defiba deployed a Zebra mobile computing solution to improve operational visibility and efficiency, while reducing extra costs related to human errors.

Murchison Defiba is one of the most traditional port facilities in Argentina with 120 years in operation. It has the most important car terminal in the country and works in various sectors such as mining, fishing and automotive. Prior to implement mobile computing solutions, the company had three critical pain points to be solved to offer a better experience to their customers: lack of operational visibility, no access to real-time data and long response times.

“With Zebra solutions, we gained agility and efficiency in our business operations. By accessing real-time information related to the tracking of our containers and cargo, we are better able to fill our clients’ needs to receive data about their orders and inventory as fast as they want,” said Elias Canievsky, Murchison Defiba General Manager. “Our field workers are empowered to capture valuable insights and detect abnormalities inside our business operations to react and make timely decisions.”

The port company implemented Zebra TC2x series mobile computers to capture and share operational data across the port terminals that can be accessed online by workers and customers wherever and whenever they need. The ruggedness of Zebra’s mobile devices plus its storage capacity, long-lasting battery, wireless platform and Zebra’s extended Android lifecycle allows Murchison Defiba’s field workers to meet customers’ expectations with the ability to move around the port terminal during their work shift without being attached to one operational spot.

Murchison Defiba worked together with Rendel IT, a Zebra PartnerConnect Independent Software Vendor, who designed a web and mobile app solution to replace paper worksheets and enable customers to consult their order status online.

“Murchison Defiba needed a solution that provided visibility and seamless communication between different business systems,” said Sebastián Rendelstein, IT Director at Rendel. “Using the solution from Zebra Technologies, we have automated our information exchange, eliminating the manual loading of data from one system to another.”

The design of Zebra mobile computers and the easy integration of Rendel IT software allowed Murchison Defiba to scale the solution across its business and transform its container terminal into a smart port.

“The demands on transportation and logistics (T&L) companies are higher than ever as staff are overextended and under pressure. Compliance remains complex and customers expect service and information instantly,” said Alejandro Prosperi, General Manager for South of Latin America at Zebra Technologies. “Zebra provides unprecedented visibility into every corner of our customers’ operations, helping T&L providers make more informed decisions and gain a competitive advantage.”
