Mobius's First-In-Class Content Integration Solution Dramatically Reduces IT Installation, Configuration, And Administration Costs

Mobius Management Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: MOBI), a leading provider of integrated solutions for content and records management, today announced the release of version 3.1 of Total Content Integrator (TCI), a Web services-based facility that provides seamless, uniform access to disparate content repositories, databases, file systems and e-mail applications. With this release, Mobius has published a freely available, Web standards-based interface that can be incorporated into virtually any third-party or in-house application to enable content search and retrieval across multiple sources. This breakthrough dramatically reduces software costs by eliminating the need for desktop-based proprietary viewers to different content repositories from vendors such as EMC Documentum, FileNet and IBM. It also improves productivity across the enterprise by putting all content at users' fingertips.

"In a recent survey by Forrester Research, IT executives indicated that their top priority for 2006 was reducing software costs," said David Winkler, vice president of product marketing at Mobius. "TCI not only reduces license and maintenance fees for viewing software, it reduces the costs of delivering new applications, user training, customer service, and the time and cost of integrating operations following mergers and acquisitions. With packaged adapters to a wide range of content sources, TCI also speeds access to the information needed to meet compliance requirements."

TCI's packaged adapters translate queries, pass them from user to content source and deliver the requested content back to the user. Mobius provides adapters to enterprise content management systems, databases, and applications such as search engines and e-mail systems. Customized adapters can be easily built using an open-source Adapter Software Development Kit.

Postbank, one of the largest private-customer banks in Germany, with over 14.5 million customers, has implemented TCI to integrate its existing archive with a new, highly scalable archive designed to store monetary transactions, account statements, account files and reports from various banking activities - in total, over 50 million items a day. "Our existing archiving system would not have been sufficient to handle the new demands of our business with regard to volume growth, flexibility and technological viability," explained Dr. Thomas Mangel, director of IT at Postbank Systems AG. "We based our new archive on Mobius's ViewDirect, chosen for its proven success with similarly large volumes of highly sensitive data. Total Content Integrator serves as a uniform interface for our multiple archiving systems."

Postbank's implementation team includes systems integrator Comline AG. Matthias Kurth, financial services account team manager at Comline, explains: "By integrating TCI into our e4/ContentMiner application, we are providing Postbank with a tool that enables users to search, retrieve and analyze content from different archives. The Bank's 22,000 employees notice no difference in their daily work as they search through multiple repositories in the new and old systems."

Designed and built for reliability, scalability and robustness, TCI comprises five Web services:

  • Search - locate and retrieve content across multiple content repositories, databases and file systems with a single search request;
  • Authentication - ensure secure access with flexible options for validating a user's credentials;
  • Index Mapping - relate disparate index names and formats to simplify cross-repository searching;
  • Content Delivery - present content to users in a Web browser, a desktop application, or a native viewing client like Mobius's DocumentDirect for the Internet;
  • Archive Write - add content from many applications directly into Mobius's ViewDirect archive, enabling automatic migration from disparate repositories.
The Web services-based TCI interface and its associated Web Services Description Language (WSDL) source code enable any customizable application to access content through TCI. This interface is a single Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) entry point that supports a collection of methods that provide access to the primary functionality of TCI. Applications are integrated with the feature-rich Web services of TCI by calling the appropriate methods and passing the appropriate parameters. The methods return the requested content to the calling application.
