St. Louis, MO – KnowledgeLake, provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions exclusively for Microsoft SharePoint, announced the deployment of a SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Content Management solution for Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).

MDOT replaced their legacy ECM system with a SharePoint 2010 solution, leaving behind high costs for licenses and maintenance, and gaining enterprise taxonomy and a solution that is designed for the MDOT Knowledge Worker.

"MDOT was essentially at a ‘fork in the road' regarding our ECM strategy. We decided to move in a different direction and formed an ECM team to gather requirements and complete vendor evaluations," stated Ken Slay, ECM Project Manager, Mississippi Department of Transportation. "Ultimately, MDOT selected SharePoint 2010 because it provided a lower cost and better ROI than any other vendor. We were impressed with the significant improvement in features over MOSS 2007, and Microsoft was already a key business partner."

MDOT selected KnowledgeLake for the Document Imaging component of their SharePoint 2010 solution. They needed a solution that would manage the capture and classification of millions of paper documents via their existing scanning devices (desktop, departmental and MFPs) as well as a way to move other electronic content to SharePoint for enterprise consumption.

"MDOT determined that KnowledgeLake needed to be a ‘key piece' to our SharePoint strategy," said Ken Slay. "We wanted the ‘best of breed' for our SharePoint 2010 document imaging solution. KnowledgeLake provides the best overall integration with SharePoint of all the imaging and capture products available in the market, and they have the best integration with Microsoft Office."

In addition to selecting SharePoint, MDOT is also utilizing FAST for SharePoint. During the ROI analysis, FAST showed savings of $300,000 to $800,000 over 6 years for MDOT, which was much better than the other vendors that were evaluated.

"KnowledgeLake and Microsoft SharePoint will provide MDOT an enterprise platform that is more economical and user friendly than their previous solution," stated Mark Oman, National Sales Director (North America), KnowledgeLake, Inc. "We are seeing a surge of organizations wanting to consolidate and migrate their legacy solutions in both the public and private sector."

Ken Slay, ECM Project Manager for MDOT, will be presenting at the AIIM/info360 conference on March 23 at 3:30 PM. Ken will be presenting "Exploring the Mississippi Department of Transportation's SharePoint Journey".
