Lexmark Introduces New Scanner, Laser Printer Bundle, Expanding Customer Technology Options
Lexmark International, Inc. (NYSE:LXK) today introduced the Lexmark 4600 scanner and Lexmark X646ef laser printer bundle, enabling enterprise customers to expand their laser printing capabilities with Lexmark's industry-leading multifunction technology.
The Lexmark 4600 scanner allows users to add copy, scan, e-mail and fax functionality to their current printers. It has a legal-size flatbed scanner with single-pass, duplex scanning capabilities in color and monochrome and comes standard with enterprise-level security features such as disk wiping, IPSec, SSL and encryption. It features the same vivid color e-Task interface that is on Lexmark's high-end laser multifunction products (MFPs), but because it is a separate device from the printer, it gives customers more ways to bring advanced multifunction technology to their workgroups.
The Lexmark 4600 scanner can be purchased separately to work along with Lexmark's T640 series of monochrome laser printers, which features print speeds ranging from up to 35 pages per minute (ppm) to 50 ppm. This option allows customers who currently own networked T640 products to easily upgrade their existing printer fleet to multifunction devices. The scanner has an estimated street price of $2,099.
For users who are interested in purchasing a new MFP but also have extensive finishing requirements, Lexmark offers the new Lexmark X646ef laser printer bundle, which includes the new 4600 scanner, a T644dtn laser printer, and finishing capabilities such as stapling and sorting at an estimated street price of $4,449.
The Lexmark X646ef is the first MFP in its class to feature a standard scan preview function to allow users to view a scanned document before it is processed. It is also the first MFP in its class to feature a USB port to allow users to scan to or print PDFs and images from a USB flash storage device directly from the operating panel. The Lexmark X646ef is the only MFP in its class with a color touchscreen interface and offers the fastest print speed in its class at up to 50 ppm.
"Lexmark's high-end MFP laser offerings -- the Lexmark X644e, X646e, X646dte and X850e series -- have been very well received by our customers," said Paul Rooke, Lexmark executive vice president and president of its Printing Solutions and Services Division. "The Lexmark 4600 scanner gives customers access to the same technology but provides new options to adapt to each customer's specific work environment and needs."
Embedded Solutions
The Lexmark 4600 scanner is compatible with Lexmark's Embedded Solutions Framework (eSF), which is a platform that allows Java-based applications to run directly on Lexmark MFPs. The Lexmark eSF is scalable and easily expands as more devices are added without the need for additional servers.
Lexmark currently offers the Embedded Document Accounting Solution on this framework and is now announcing the new Embedded Scan to Network application to simplify scanning for customers. Embedded Scan to Network saves customers time because it eliminates the extra step of scanning first to e-mail and then detaching the document into a folder from a computer workstation. With Lexmark's new Embedded Scan to Network application, users can scan documents directly to a network folder by simply pressing an icon.
"Lexmark is focused on improving document workflow by speeding up and simplifying business processes," Rooke said. "Lexmark's Embedded Solutions Framework allows customers to easily implement applications that do that cost effectively throughout their entire enterprise."
Product Availability
The Lexmark 4600 scanner and Lexmark X646ef bundle are available immediately through Lexmark's channel partners. The Embedded Scan to Network application will be available on www.lexmark.com in June 2006.
