Latest Version Of Captaris Workflow Delivers Business Process Management Features And Enhanced Microsoft Development Tools

Captaris, Inc. (NASDAQ:CAPA) , a leading provider of software products that automate business processes, today announced the upcoming release of Captaris Workflow 6.0. This major upgrade includes important new features for workflow developers, business process analysts and enterprise system architects, and will continue to advance the singular Captaris advantage of combining simple workflow development and deployment for the Microsoft .NET Framework along with powerful business process management functionality. Version 6.0 reinforces the value of Captaris Workflow; in addition to managing document-based workflows, it offers a complete workflow development system on which organizations can standardize to automate any business process.

"We are pleased to see how Captaris Workflow embraces and extends several Microsoft products and the .NET Framework 2.0," said Robert Bernard, general manager of the Global ISV Group at Microsoft Corp. "Microsoft's collaboration with Captaris helps our mutual customers take advantage of IT investments and make more informed decisions. This new version further improves the ease-of- use for Microsoft industry partners to create business process management solutions using our products together."

For developers, Captaris Workflow 6.0 will enable them to build and deploy more efficient workflow processes faster through integration with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and the .NET Framework 2.0. For business analysts, the new release provides an enhanced Workflow Simulation module. Enterprise system architects will appreciate the new Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) for deployments of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server.

Key New Features and Benefits

  • Simulation Module 2.0. The module makes it easy for a business analyst to simulate several weeks of "what-if" scenarios without impacting everyday business activities. This provides organizations with a powerful productivity tool and enables managers to effectively optimize and improve workflows before, during or after production deployment.
  • New design canvas for Visual Studio 2005. Now developers can have all the power of Visual Studio 2005 combined with the time-saving modeling, task and user capabilities of Captaris Workflow. They get a complete Visual Studio-based Workflow drag and drop development canvas.
  • Support for the new .NET Framework 2.0. Developers will now have the ability to reduce the code required to access and display data by as much as 70%.
  • Integrates with either Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or Microsoft SQL Server 2005. This provides the technology base for additional Business Intelligence (BI) reporting and analysis.
  • Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. This new architecture places a lighter footprint onto Office SharePoint servers, simplifying new workflow deployments.
"As a Microsoft Certified Partner and a leading developer of process automation and document management solutions for end users, we are excited to deploy Captaris Workflow 6.0 because it will reduce the development time to implement automation of business processes for our customers by as much as 30% which means greater value and return on investment to our customer," said Chris Youngren, Managing Director of BPM Practice from Risetime, a Captaris partner. "The improved capabilities allow easier integration of Captaris RightFax and Alchemy Document Management into the document-centric workflow solution."
