JFL Peripheral Solutions Announces Linux Drivers For Visioneer And Xerox DocuMate Scanners
JFL Peripheral Solutions, the leading independent provider of scanner driver development services and products, recently announced the availability of new Linux drivers, for Visioneer and Xerox DocuMate scanners, that expand the compatibility of these scanners to Linux operating systems with exclusive image processing technology. The new standard SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy) driver enables users to scan on Linux-based operating systems including Ubuntu, Suse, Suse Enterprise, Debian and Fedora. In addition to the SANE driver, JFL also announced a soon to be available TWAIN 2.0 driver that is platform independent.
"We are receiving a growing number of customer requests for cross-platform capabilities, including compatibility with operating systems built upon the Linux kernel," said Fred Harju, senior technical spokesperson for JFL Peripheral Solutions. "Utilizing our new drivers we have the capability to develop an API for any Visioneer or Xerox DocuMate scanner under any Linux operating system. Our unique Linux-compatible scanner driver also enables our Professional Services Group to assist customers in building custom solutions at reasonable rates for any application. This new driver gives us the ability to enable practically any application on Linux for scanning."
"JFL's software developers are the experts in designing and implementing imaging software, drivers, and custom application components," said John Dexter, vice president of business development at Visioneer. "Visioneer and Xerox DocuMate scanners bring unprecedented ease-of-use and imaging capabilities to individual, enterprise and government users. Extending these capabilities onto Linux platforms provides a comprehensive solution for document management to network administrators running multiple operating systems."
Recent research has shown that open source software is used by over 70 percent of developers worldwide. Through 2012, the use and presence of Linux and other open source software will continue to increase at double-digit rates within enterprises already deploying it. Further, while Linux desktops are a small portion of current desktops, IDC reports that their growth rate will continue at a compounded annual rate of 30 to 40 percent.
