Iron Mountain Joins Top Industry Certification Board For Document Shredding

The National Association for Information Destruction elects Iron Mountain to help drive industry standards for shredding business documents; Company becomes largest ever to complete certification program for North American operations

Iron Mountain, the information management company, recently announced that it has been elected to the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) Certification Review Board. Sal Napoli, director of secure shredding for Iron Mountain, will join the board and help encourage shredding vendors to receive NAID Certification and adhere to its standards. Iron Mountain itself recently achieved NAID AAA Certification for its secure shredding operations in North America.

"With Iron Mountain completing certification, NAID AAA Certification moves closer to becoming the default criteria for determining which shredding vendors are invited to compete for secure destruction opportunities," said Robert Johnson, executive director of NAID. "We are proud to have such a highly regarded service provider lend their credibility to our program."

NAID offers its certification program on a voluntary basis to NAID member companies providing information destruction services. Through the program, NAID members may seek certification for mobile and/or plant-based operations in paper destruction. Companies achieve and maintain NAID AAA Certification through an on-going series of announced and unannounced audits of operations at their secure shredding facilities and in the field. Currently, there are more than 700 NAID AAA Certified locations in North America, as well as a growing number around the world.

"Joining the NAID Certification Review Board and achieving certification are important milestones for us, and helps validate our longstanding approach to reassure customers that their information is securely destroyed," said Sal Napoli. "The standards set and enforced by NAID ensure that every provider – irrespective of brand or size – meets one standard for information destruction. As an industry leader in information destruction services, we feel a responsibility to not only support NAID's efforts to certify the universe of providers, but to have a voice in what that certification standard means: security, operational integrity, and peace of mind."

With this appointment, Napoli becomes the second member of Iron Mountain's shredding team to actively serve on a NAID board, joining Dave Carey, vice president of secure shredding in Canada, who serves on the board for NAID-Canada.
