Hot Gas Filtration

The hot gas filtration units in the Tri-Mer UltraCat system are unique.

The filters start as a slurry of refractory fibers and are vacuum formed into shape. They are very lightweight, approximately 90% open with much lower pressure drop. They are also self-supporting without any filter cages, robust, and have a useful service life of 5 to 10 years.

Ceramic filters as industry knows them best are often called “candles” because of their solid tube shape. They have been a staple of air pollution control for decades. The original ceramic filters were manufactured from refractory grains such as alumina and pressed into the basic candle shape–a tube with a closed, rounded bottom and a flange at the top.

The filters used in the UltraCat are very different in their design, service life, and multi-pollutant functionality. UltraCat hot gas filtration controls SO2, HCl, NOx and particulate in a single very efficient system, and can be adapted to handle mercury and dioxins as well.

Tri-Mer packed tower scrubbers have capacaties to 150,000 cfm and larger; they can also be scaled for airflow down to 35 cfm.
More than 400 installations in Europe, Japan, and the U.S. use catalytic filter technology.

Filters are manufactured in various lengths, but it is the 3-meter (10-ft.) filters that have been popular throughout industry for the last 25 years. The filters are placed in a housing similar to a baghouse.
