Glass Lining Submittal & Specifications
US Pipe Fabrication’s SG-14® glass lining system delivers a robust, ASTM B1000-21–compliant solution engineered for demanding wastewater and sewage treatment applications.
Designed for ductile iron and steel pipe and fittings ranging from 3 to 24 inches, SG-14® provides a hard, smooth, vitreous lining that resists grease buildup, sludge adhesion, and crystalline salt deposits such as struvite and vivianite—common causes of maintenance challenges and flow restriction.
The process begins with strict substrate requirements and preparation. Pipe and fittings are sourced from a single manufacturer, carefully ground, repaired as needed using approved procedures, and grit blasted to ensure optimal surface conditions. The glass lining material itself is formulated with tightly controlled density and chemistry, then applied in multiple coats—each separately fired at approximately 1400°F—to create an integral molecular bond with the base metal.
Quality control is embedded throughout the lining process, from slurry preparation and wet/dry film thickness monitoring to controlled firing cycles and final inspection. The finished lining achieves a minimum average thickness of 10 mils, a Moh’s hardness of at least 5, and the ability to withstand mechanical strain and extreme thermal shock without cracking or spalling.
Comprehensive inspection, testing, and documentation accompany every pipe and fitting. Routine thickness measurements, holiday testing, straightness verification, and full traceability ensure compliance with ASTM, ANSI, NACE, SSPC, and NAPF standards. Backed by experienced applicators and rigorous certification, SG-14® sets a proven benchmark for durability, corrosion resistance, and long-term reliability in critical fluid handling systems.
