White Paper: Enterprise Content Integration Services Reaching Out To Content Beyond Document Repository

The benefits of enterprise content management solutions are well understood. Content as unstructured data in the form of documents, Web pages, images, audio, video, enterprise reports, XML components, and so on, is today omnipresent and growing at enormous rate. The capability to manage content can greatly improve productivity and quality, lower costs, or enforce rules for business processes involving content. The challenge is that content relevant to many such processes is today typically spread across multiple internal and external repositories, file systems, and databases and often only an aggregate view across all content sources can provide the desired benefits.

Enterprise content integration (ECI) is a technology that makes enterprise content accessible with a single query, no matter where it resides. It assimilates content from all corporate and online sources, as well as enterprise applications. Selected content can subsequently be selectively imported into a master repository. ECI technology enables Documentum to expand its comprehensive offering to manage content beyond the Documentum repository.

Documentum Enterprise Content Integration Services (ECI Services) enables the integration of all content sources inside and outside the enterprise, allowing end users to access all relevant content from a single user interface. Documentum ECI Services consist of a set of adapters designed to access respective content sources, a back-end query broker that federates each end user request, and a user interface that allows end users to formulate their requests and analyze the results.

Documentum ECI Services adds a number of benefits to the Documentum enterprise content management (ECM) platform:

  • Provides access to the global content in just one query,
  • Enhances existing solutions in place without imposing change
  • Adapts to changes of the information space
  • Coexists with any kind of IT infrastructure
  • Helps users find, assimilate, synthesize, share and integrate information
