Peachtree Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons, P.A. is a midsize medical practice specializing in adult cardiac and thoracic surgery. As is the case with many medical offices, its content management processes relied heavily on outdated technology and a great deal of manual labor. The resulting loss in time and money made the practice realize it needed to revamp its processes in an effort to improve efficiency, increase profitability, and comply with emerging regulatory requirements.

The medical practice required a solution that could capture high-quality images of existing paper documents of various sizes and types. Peachtree Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons turned to NCG Medical Systems, a Florida-based VAR and software developer, because of its success in helping medical offices of all sizes acclimate to the digital world.

The medical practice implemented NCG Medical Systems' d-Chart Paperless Medical Records System. d-Chart is an electronic medical records (EMR) option that can be customized to any medical setting and practice size without disrupting current operations. With a tablet PC, physicians can continue taking patient notes and medical records in whatever way they are accustomed to (e.g. handwritten, dictated, typed) and store all records in one central location. In addition to d-Chart, Peachtree Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons installed Fujitsu fi-4120C color duplex workgroup scanners in four offices in an effort to digitally scan all existing and incoming paper-based documents for electronic archival.

The new EMR system helps practitioners and staff instantly share content between medical practice locations and eliminates the lag time between content request and delivery. Furthermore, principals have peace of mind in knowing that important documents are in a secure location and are in compliance with regulatory guidelines. The solution also eliminates the manual labor and physical storage costs associated with paper filing. By increasing record-keeping efficiency, Peachtree Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons estimates its EMR system saves the practice $150,000 annually.
