New functionality in content server, including archiving, web-based APIs, and encryption gives title insurance company improved performance, scalability, and security.

As the incidence of real estate fraud continues to rise in Canada, it has become more and more important for consumers and businesses to protect themselves. Clients depend on legal advice and services for the successful closing of their real estate transactions. Title insurance and innovative workflow solutions can speed the process of closing real estate deals.

In an announcement, it was noted that OpenText has partnered with FCT, formerly First Canadian Title, to upgrade FCT’s centralized document repository with the implementation of OpenText Content Suite. The goal of the implementation is to help FCT ensure all its documents are accessible, secure, reliable, and available throughout the organization as well as to federal regulators.

The FCT group of companies includes FCT Insurance Company Ltd., which provides title insurance, and First Canadian Title Company Limited, which provides default solutions along with other real-estate related services, and is wholly owned by First American Financial Corporation.

First Canadian Title Company Limited’s products and services are targeted to residential and commercial legal professionals, recovery professionals, real estate agents, mortgage brokers, and builders that are constantly looking for ways to improve the services they offer their own customers.

Products and services offered include:

  • residential and commercial title insurance services
  • residential refinance programs for lenders
  • valuation services
  • default solutions

An OpenText customer since 2002, FCT had been using Livelink, OpenText's predecessor solution for enterprise content management, as its web-based collaboration and document management system. While storage was secure and reliable, the company's focus on providing employees with the optimal tools to make the best decisions for customers meant upgrading to the OpenText Content Suite, an information governance backbone for the enterprise.

OpenText Content Suite Platform, the foundation for OpenText Enterprise Information Management (EIM) offerings, is an enterprise content management (ECM) system designed to manage the flow of information from capture through archiving and disposition. Content Suite Platform ensures agile information governance to address an increasingly complex and dynamic regulatory landscape and the rapid growth of business information. The Content Suite Platform reduces risk while allowing organizations to focus on using information to drive strategic growth and innovation.

Following migration to Content Suite, FCT is using new functionality for content archiving, which allows employees to continue accessing archived documents through familiar, existing FCT applications.
