LabOne, a diagnostic services provider headquartered in Lenexa, KS, provides risk assessment information services for the insurance industry and diagnostic healthcare testing services for physicians, managed care organizations, and employers. Drug testing services and related employee qualification products are also available. The company uses a wide variety of test requisition and other forms, processing 30,000 to 35,000 forms each day for their Insurance and Substance Abuse Testing (SAT) divisions. To meet clients' needs, some forms must be processed within 4 hours; all other forms must be completed within 13 hours.
LabOne uses Imaging Business Machines' (IBML) (Birmingham, AL) ImageTrac scanners to input completed forms. Until recently, information from these forms, such as demographic data from laboratory requisition slips, identity of individuals undergoing testing, and name of the client requesting the test, was then manually entered into a laboratory database.
