Compact, Wide Format Scanner is Recognized for Speed, Price-Point, Easy Integration with a Wide Format Printer

Contex, the world-leading developer of wide format scanning and imaging solutions, received a celebrated recommendation from Cadalyst magazine for its XD2490 wide format scanner. The magazine gave the XD2490 an "A" grade, bestowing its "Highly Recommended" stamp of approval. According to Cadalyst Labs reviewer Ron LaFon, the sheet-fed scanner is a high-quality choice for technical users who work with D-size documents. He adds, "This scanner is well-designed and engineered, speedy, and loaded with good software - one element that can make or break a scanner."

"It's an honor to receive these accolades from Cadalyst for the XD2490. Our easy-to-use scanner enables office users to improve collaboration and archive accurate images of technical and graphic documents," comments Phil Magenheim, President of Contex Americas. "Such continuous positive recognition of Contex scanners clearly indicates that our successful R&D team responds to customers' evolving needs."

Cadalyst reviewer LaFon set up and tested the XD2490 with two different sets of originals: two standard 22" x 27" topographic maps and two 13" x 18" color AutoCAD plots. He reported that topographic maps averaged 22.29 seconds to complete, including paper loading and ejecting, and the scans of the AutoCAD plots averaged 17 seconds, also including paper loading and ejecting. "All scanning operations went smoothly, and the speed was quite good," notes LaFon.

"When everything is installed and configured - a simple and painless process - the Contex XD2490 is rated at 3.0" per second in 400-dpi Turbo RGB color mode," states LaFon. With the scanner in grayscale/monochrome mode, LaFon rated the XD2490 at 10.0" per second in a 400-dpi Turbo configuration. In a period of 60 minutes, including paper loading and ejecting time, he rated the Contex XD2490 as being able to complete 234 D-size scans in RGB color mode at 200 dpi, 501 D-size scans in 200-dpi monochrome mode, 240 A1-size scans in 200-dpi RGB color mode, and 514 A1-size scans in 200-dpi monochrome mode.

"The XD2490 is of the same high quality as other Contex wide-format scanners previously reviewed by Cadalyst Labs," notes LaFon. "Fast prescanning aids users to get their scans just the way they want them." This capability makes it extremely easy to use for occasional users.

Introduced last fall at a groundbreaking price, the XD2490 scanner is intended for all types of users and offices that require convenient and quality in-house scanning. The XD2490 scanner is also available as part of a single footprint MFP solution, allowing customers to obtain a wide-format scan, print, copy, and share system with many considerable economic benefits for the office environment.
