Constant Efforts To Conserve Water Will Increase Demand For Water Recycling And Reuse Market

Recently, Melbourne Water and RMIT University are getting into a partnership of US$ 5M to combat the pollution in Australia’s waterways. The experts in aquatic ecology and pollution research will help in investigating various ways to protect waterways Melbourne and find solution to keep it healthy. Professor Peter Coloe, Pro Vice-Chancellor Science, Engineering and Health, at RMIT University was delighted to be the part of this change. With the increasing population and large urban developments are increasing aquatic pollutants. Efforts like this will help in better use of water and encourage new ways to recycle water.

The problem of scarcity of water is being faced by various countries. Recycling and reusing water is the main motive to meet the increasing demand for water across the globe. Wastewater is applicable in various forms to meet the requirements with the help of recycling process. The production of recycled water is also referred to as water reclamation. Recycled water not only helps in conserving the existing water resources but also minimizes the need for new water supplies. With the use of recycled water, various financial and other resources can be saved.

The recycled water can be used for various purposes such as flushing water in toilets, landscape irrigation, in industrial processes, various domestic and commercial use, and for agricultural use. Water recycling also helps in recharging the ground water level. Moreover, various water treatment techniques are engaged for water recycling and reusing. The conventional ways of water treatment includes sedimentation, flocculation, filtration, and coagulation. Nowadays various advanced water treatment techniques are being used such as chemical treatment, MBR technologies, and membrane filtration, which helps in providing clarification, filtration, disinfection, and removal of organics. Water recycling procedure has been proven an effective source for creating a water supply without subjugating its quality and is good for on the public health.

Some of the crucial place where water recycling is used at large amount are:

  • Recycled water is highly used for non-potable purposes such as landscape agriculture, irrigation purposes, and in public parks. Additionally other areas where non-potable water is used is in oil refineries for cooling and in power plants.
  • In industries, recycled water is used in paper mills, concrete mixing, dust control, artificial lakes, and construction activities.
  • Large projects are also employed that uses recycled water for various potable purposes such as recharging of ground water aquifers and expanding water reservoir surface. In the U.S., recycled water is infused/injected into the ground water aquifers that increases the quantity of ground water by avoiding entry of salt water.
  • The U.S. has significantly used various methods of water recycling and reusing to satisfy the growing need for pure water from the increasing population. Technological advancements has also helped in improving water recycling treatments that will further grow to stratify the growing water needs in future.
