Building The Foundation For Efficient Document Conversion Environments
White Paper: Building The Foundation For Efficient Document Conversion Environments
By Mark McKinney, President, LuraTech Inc.
For scan service providers and other organizations that handle millions of pages of scanned paper and digital documents, one of the biggest challenges is how to effectively manage the whole process. Today, creating production-level document conversion environments can be an unwieldy and costly prospect, which overwhelms organizations with complexity and lack of control. But a new approach from LuraTech called DocYard is aiming to simplify creation of workflows using standards-based solutions and offering centralized management capabilities that give users complete control.
There are a number of ways that companies approach building a document conversion workflow. Some organizations rely on a lot of manpower and minimal technology, which requires a large staff doing a lot of manual labor and potentially introducing errors in the process. Others take a Rube Goldberg approach of patching together components from various vendors. But then they require a great deal of technical expertise to set up each new job. And yet others spend millions of dollars on customized, fully automated solutions that are either built in-house or are comprised of turnkey technology. The problem with this approach is that the organizations often find themselves paying significant hidden costs for additional consulting and licensing fees.
