Alfresco Drives Next-Generation Business Process Management With Alfresco Activiti

Adds Enterprise-level Support and Cloud-based Applications for Popular Open Source Activiti BPM Project

San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) - Driven by demand from leading global organizations, Alfresco Software has announced the general availability of Alfresco Activiti Enterprise. This new subscription-based offering delivers cloud-based process editing, administrative features and commercial support for the popular open source Activiti business process management (BPM) engine.

The Activiti project (http://www.activiti.org) was started by Alfresco in 2010 and currently sees over 6k downloads each month. The Activiti BPM engine is widely used by organizations of all sizes and in many industries and geographies. Activiti is also embedded in Alfresco One, Alfresco’s leading open source, hybrid enterprise content management (ECM) platform.

“While we’ve long helped customers address content-centric processes with Alfresco One, we’ve seen overwhelming demand from customers that want to use Activiti in the enterprise to meet broader process-centric application needs,” said Doug Dennerline, Alfresco CEO. “With Alfresco Activiti, we are enabling the next-generation of work, which will be driven by business users and enabled by mobility and the cloud.”

“BPM suites, ECM and case management platforms have traditionally been separate systems but share common architectural components,” said Carl Lehmann, Research Manager at 451 Research. “The convergence of these systems forms a common framework that can benefit application development and integration of all types.”

Alfresco will enhance the open-source Aciviti package with subscription-only SaaS tools and support for enterprise deployments. An Alfresco Activiti Enterprise subscription includes the following components:

  • Alfresco Activiti Engine – supported version of the widely deployed, BPMN 2-compatible process engine
  • Activiti Editor – cloud-based graphical process editor for defining and validating business process definitions
  • Activiti Administrator – administration tools to monitor and manage enterprise deployments

“Since inception, Alfresco has been innovating and disrupting the ECM market with an open platform that empowers developers and IT, while offering business users the simplicity they desire,” said Paul Holmes-Higgin, GM of Alfresco’s Activiti business unit. “Now we are extending that open approach and simple + smart vision to BPM.”
