Drinking Water Disinfection In A New Hampshire Town

new-hampshire-CS

Hillsborough, New Hampshire faced a significant challenge in disinfecting their drinking water due to high organic load in their raw water. The town had been using chlorine to meet EPA virus disinfection standards, but this resulted in violations for carcinogenic disinfection by-product limitations. Seeking a cost-effective solution that would still meet virus disinfection standards, the town decided to explore UV disinfection.

After piloting traditional technology treatments with no success, Hillsborough requested proposals for a UV system that could achieve a 3-log virus reduction, even when the UV transmittance declined to 80%. Three top-tier UV disinfection companies responded, and Hillsborough ultimately chose Atlantium's HOD UV system.

The HOD UV system developed by Atlantium uses Total Internal Reflection technology to recycle UV light energy and provide superior micro-organism inactivation. This innovative system effectively kills microorganisms such as pseudomonas, cryptosporidium, and viruses.
