Laserfiche Unveils Framework For Information Governance At IIMC Conference

Laserfiche will present its new framework for information governance at the 64th Annual Conference of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, NV (booth 301). At 3:00 p.m., Kimberly Samuelson, director of government strategy at Laserfiche, will unveil the framework during a seminar titled, "Information Governance: The Crossroads of Technology, Compliance and Recordkeeping."

"Establishing a framework for information governance is a critical necessity for municipal clerks who are concerned with compliance," said Samuelson. "It's a delicate balancing act: Too much information, held beyond legal retention requirements, can cause e-discovery problems. Too little information can complicate audits. Without a solid information governance strategy, cities run unnecessary compliance risks."

Laserfiche's framework for information governance has four parts:

  • People. Effective information governance requires buy-in from an executive sponsor as well as department heads, users, and legal, technology and records managers.
  • Policies. While there is no one-size-fits-all suggestion that can be made in terms of governance policies, it is often helpful to focus on outcomes (value) rather than limits (lock-down).
  • Technology. Implementing enterprise content management (ECM) as a foundational component of information governance automates the organization's approach to information management, ensuring standardization and reliability of information assets.
  • Risk management. A well-vetted records management policy that ensures consistency of information across the enterprise is essential to minimizing compliance risks.

"With over 10,000 members, IIMC is one of the most influential government associations in the world," said Samuelson. "I'm delighted to present the latest piece of Laserfiche thought leadership at this important event and help municipal clerks from around the world learn how to more effectively manage the information entrusted to them by citizens."
