Fabless Semiconductor Company Tabula Employs M-Files Easy Document Management To Improve Efficiency And Productivity

Tabula Utilizes M-Files to Manage its ABAX 3PLD Product Family Documentation

Motive Systems, the developer of M-Files easy document management software and the cloud-based document management service M-Files Cloud Vault, announced that Tabula has deployed M-Files to help manage digital documentation for Tabula's patented Spacetime architecture. Spacetime enables re-writing of semiconductor logic after manufacture and has set new industry benchmarks in density, performance, and affordability.

"We needed a simple and affordable document management system that could also scale as we grow and provide enough sophistication to handle new challenges down the road," said Dr. Sridhar Kasichainula, Tabula senior manager of Quality and Reliability. "M-Files fits the bill perfectly with a balance of price and capability."

Tabula, a venture-backed startup, had amassed several years' worth of documentation relating to Spacetime product development, patents, and manufacturing as well as the digital office infrastructure for the company's 110 employees. The company had relied on a variety of tools to track documentation, but the systems eventually showed signs of unmanaged sprawl. As a result, Tabula required a solution to track and manage its records and to provide fast and easy access to documents using simple keywords and contextual information.

Tabula turned to M-Files for document version control and access permissions as well as workflow for file changes, file approvals, archiving, and history logs. M-Files gives Tabula a foundation of metadata keywords, rather than hard-to-manage folder structures, to uniquely identify and classify important company documents. With metadata tags that use common-sense search terms, Tabula employees can type in simple two- or three-word descriptions of documents for instant retrieval. Additionally, the metadata functionality maintains discipline over files in terms of version control, process monitoring, and security.

"Another remarkable aspect of the M-Files system is how it integrates into the Windows operating system, which includes any business or technical application that runs in Windows," said Kasichainula. "This is a key feature for us because it enables our employees to use M-Files without any training, which was important to us considering our company's rapid growth. As we add additional employees, we can get them up to speed quickly on where to promptly find important documents and information with M-Files."

Greg Milliken, president of Motive Systems, added, "The semiconductor business is complex and fast-changing, with quality and time-to-market dependent on efficiently and accurately following specific processes. The rich feature set and ease of use of M-Files allows Tabula to achieve this while also providing a flexible platform that can be extended to meet new needs as the company grows."

M-Files is a powerful document management system that enables companies and organizations of all sizes and industries to make dramatic gains in efficiency and productivity by improving the way they organize, manage and track business documents and processes—all without requiring employees to change the way they work. M-Files eliminates the need for chaotic Windows folders by organizing documents using simple tags and keywords. With M-Files, users store documents in a centralized vault, the same as they would on any other hard drive on the system or network, but rather than searching for the right folder, users simply save documents to the vault and tag. M-Files works like Windows Explorer, so the vault is accessed like My Documents, it's just faster and more secure. Finding files is as simple as typing in a tag or performing a full-text search right from the Open or Save dialog box of any Windows application. A hosted version of M-Files is also available called M-Files Cloud Vault that eliminates the need to purchase and configure a server and provides all the benefits of M-Files for a low monthly fee.
