Electronic E-Mail Management Cuts Document Processing Time

Sometimes, the simplest ideas turn out to be the best ones. Greg Cook, imaging support technician at Michigan Millers Mutual Insurance Company, thought the idea of integrating e-mails into the company's EDM workflow system was too obvious to make a real impact. Two years after implementing that ‘simple' solution, however, Michigan Millers is seeing huge savings in money and time.

In business for more than 125 years and licensed to operate in 25 states, Michigan Millers provides auto, homeowner, and agribusiness insurance and a full range of property and casualty coverage for small and medium businesses. The company has fully embraced EDM as a means of increasing efficiency and improving its ability to provide outstanding customer service. Six years ago, Michigan Millers implemented the DocFinity EDM system from Optical Image Technology to improve access to information, keep better track of documents, and eliminate the need for paper storage. According to Cook, the solution is used to image documents; then, once documents are stored electronically in the system, DocFinity's Workflow module sends the documents to the appropriate applications for processing. The EDM system enabled Michigan Millers to double its claims processing load without increasing staff; streamline its 30-day medical claims process into 3 days; save more than $100,000 per year in paper, printing, and consumables costs; and reclaim more than 1,400 square feet of floor space by eliminating file cabinets.
