Cabinet NG (CNG), provider of document management and workflow software, wrapped up its Collaborate Conference, held September 24-25th at The Westin Huntsville in Alabama. Keynote speaker Dr. Jan Davis, former NASA astronaut, gave a rousing presentation on exploration, honing in on the importance of the innovation and teamwork needed to accomplish great things. She humbly pointed out the enormous amount of work, ideas, and cooperation that led to her three space shuttle missions (on the Endeavour in 1992 and the Discovery in 1994 and 1997), operation of Spacelab, work on the Hubble Telescope and hundreds of experiments conducted in space. Walking off to a standing ovation, she left everyone feeling a bit more inspired.

Andrew Bailey, CEO of CNG and self professed space geek earlier in the day set a similar tone. Using space exploration as an example of opening your mind to solving business problems, he talked about the importance of training and the availability of a series of new document management training programs that can be registered for online. Bailey asked attendees to take a look at the way businesses are doing things and how they can apply document management to those things and take advantage of the breakout training sessions, software demos, as well as a hands-on lab at the conference. Both advanced and refresher courses are available on the CNG website.

"Applying even a single feature can have a great impact on your bottom line," he noted. "Think about how to capture documents more efficiently and share them as widely as possible throughout your organization. Look at processes and see how you can be more efficient. Nobody knows your processes better than you do and it's usually very easy to figure out how to make those more effective. CNG will help put those initiatives into effect without altering your daily operation."

Bailey also pointed out that despite the current economy CNG is having a record revenue year. He credits these revenues largely to their focus on ease of integration. "Using our API to integrate into your existing applications provides great efficiencies and comfort for employees," he stated. "Our goal is to make your applications as integrated as possible and we are working closely with partners to ensure that we integrate with more solutions continuously."

Partnering for the Future
Two of those partners, Kodak and Fujitsu, showcased their integrated CNG solutions and scanning technology at the conference. Kodak highlighted their high quality scanning prowess with Perfect Page Scanning. The technology eliminates the need for additional image quality and processing software. Their Smart Touch functionality lets users assign numbers to everyday scanning tasks. At the touch of a button, users can send documents to CNG-SAFE, email, and printers in a variety of file formats.

Fujitsu surprised the crowd with a slide showing their dominant market share . They showcased their fi-6010N Color Duplex Network Scanner. The network scanner gives an organization office-linking functionality, including Scan to E-mail, Scan to Folder, Scan to Network Fax, Scan to FTP and Scan to Print. The fi-6010N will automatically adjust for Rotation, Blank Page Deletion, Color Detection, Deskew, and Page Size Detection. CNG pointed out that over 90% of their customers use either Kodak or Fujitsu scanners.

A Great (Customer) Success
The customer success stories are what drew the most attendee interest. American Behavioral is a full-service behavioral healthcare organization providing Employee Assistance Program services, managed behavioral healthcare, pre-employment and promotional psychological testing, drug screening, manager and supervisor training, and critical-incident stress management. America Behavioral started using CNG in its claims department and amused the crowd with before and after pictures. The employees in that department were very excited about the streamlining of their operation, made apparent by more "after" pictures of a smiling team. Finding immediate productivity increases and huge costs savings, the company began implementing the system throughout its other departments.

Limestone County, Alabama is using CNG's document management software to enable a unique telepresence (video hearing) application. By processing new jail inmates through CNG-SAFE, local governments can improve public safety by having inmates stay in prison during the preliminary hearing process and process more inmates through the system, saving the county time and money. County officials stressed CNG-SAFE's unique ability to integrate and complement other technologies and processes, such as Cisco IP videophones, scanners, signature capture, and VoIP.

Partners and VARs are bringing help with local support. Synchronizer/retriever has integrated with over 30 new applications. Other partners highlighted include KOM Networks (archiving and storage solutions), PSIGEN Software (advanced capture), Tigerpaw (CRM software) and Esker (fax server software & document automation), among others.

New Tools for the Trade
CNG also presented a litany of new tools and features that will make document management and particularly document retrieval easier than ever before.

The CNG-Web module provides a web-browser interface to CNG-SAFE. Using this convenient interface, users have the ability to search cabinets, folders, and view documents from any location, anytime, without installing additional software on remote systems. Just log into a browser and see the same structure available on your desktop companywide. CNG-ONLINE is a SaaS application that uses a hosted model to securely store your documents in the cloud. The hosted model has many benefits including remote data backup and automatic system upgrades for an affordable monthly subscription fee.

CNG is technology agnostic and integrates easily with virtually any application. CNG's new Retriever for web apps is taking integration with web applications, such as Salesforce.com, to a whole new level.

CNG has greatly enhanced it search capabilities. Searching methods include structural, document, full text, and quick search. CNG's new quick search feature makes searching remarkably easy by allowing users to immediately locate documents based on a single text entry. They also gave a sneak peek at a newly created icon/gadget that resides on the user desktop and enables the direct search and retrieval of documents. This was demoed to a privileged group of customers, VARs and prospects. A naming contest is in the works in which CNG will reach out to their customers, VARs and prospects to see if they can help name the new product feature. More on that later J

Overall, Collaborate 2009 was a great success. With IT budgets shrinking and the demand for "doing more for less" growing, businesses are looking for real value and products that will help them improve efficiency and their bottom line. With the economy struggling, and an emphasis on value-driven products, there has never been a better time to learn first hand about how CNG is helping its customers save money and improve constituent services in a variety of industry verticals including healthcare, government, distribution, manufacturing, accounting, insurance, legal and more.
