White Paper: RFID Considerations

As more companies decide to implement RFID at distribution centers, stores and warehouses, the likelihood of having to comply with one or more industry mandates increases for a variety of suppliers. These mandates promise extreme organizational benefits for those issuing the mandates as well as the ability to streamline an intense amount of data that will ultimately result in a super-efficient supply chain.

Those vendors who have been part of the early adoption phase of RFID technology are now starting to spread to the industry initial lessons learned. One clear lesson is that a pilot is a necessary step for an RFID project. The question is - just what is a pilot and how do you create a successful one that results in moving forward with RFID and making it just more than a cost of business?

Though it may not be extensive – even a Slap and Ship solution requires testing and some operational planning before setting up an RFID printer and printing out RFID labels that are either EPC or DoD compliant. Merely placing the labels on your product does not guarantee successful read rates and 100% compliance.
