Fire Protection Systems In Oil And Gas Applications
The oil and gas (O&G) industry is associated with more deaths from fires and explosions than any other private industry, according to EnergyWire’s 2014 review of U.S. government labor statistics published in 2014.
While deaths and injuries are clearly the worst consequence, they are not the only repercussion of O&G industry fires. Fires can cause damage to equipment, facilities and other O&G property that can temporarily or permanently curtail work crucial to the success of upstream, midstream, downstream, or offshore and onshore operations. In addition to human fatalities and property damage, O&G fires can result in substantial environmental damage, which can have a negative impact on the operator’s reputation with regulatory bodies and the general public.
