Documents that need to be redacted are uploaded and filed into directories on the computer. Each morning, the VeriDact Pro software is launched and sent to a specific directory to redact. Norfolk Circuit Court redacts about 7,500 documents per day,and the program runs throughout the day with no human interaction necessary. At the end of each day, documents that have been redacted can be taken from the computer to be posted to the non-secured Web site. When documents have been redacted, the program sends a copy to a redacted folder, a copy to a folder with the original documents, and a copy to an audit folder. "When we first began using the system, 100% of the documents were quality checked to be sure the program was redacting the information it should," says Larson, "We quickly determined the program was working sufficiently, and now we simply do a random quality control check at the end of each batch.

" When searching for a redaction solution, Norfolk Circuit Court was hoping for an accuracy rate of 98% or higher. Thus far, the court has consistently experienced an accuracy rate of 99% to 99.5%. Legislation was recently approved stating that even on a secure remote access site, social security numbers must be redacted by no later than July 1, 2010. Because Norfolk Circuit Court implemented this data redaction solution, not only is it able to safely offer records to the general public, it is already able to comply with this new legislation.
