One of the major challenges for IT organizations is the number of systems that they deploy to address business challenges throughout the company. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems, databases to address requirements, and document capture solutions, too. Multiply the requirements across departments and business units throughout the organization, and the magnitude of the challenge becomes apparent.
As advanced document capture solutions emerged over the 10-15 years, solutions were almost exclusively selected to address individual document challenges: records departments chose solutions that allowed them to better manage their paper records, banks purchased solutions that addressed new account openings, check processing, and loan processing challenges, and accounting departments chose solutions that enabled them to capture and process paper invoices.
