Patent protects innovative MobiFLOW technology enabling standard smart phones and tablets to act as handy scanner via app that scans and recognizes contracts, account applications and any full and/or multi-page documents

Top Image Systems, Ltd. (TIS), a leading ECM (Enterprise Content Management), BPM (Business Process Management) and MIP (Mobile Image Processing) solutions provider recently announced that the patent application filed by TIS to enable capture and recognition of documents of any size using the standard camera on a smart mobile device will issue as US Patent No. 8,817,339. By protecting TIS’ inventive process for capturing high quality images of documents, the patent opens a broad range of commercial opportunities for a virtually endless number of useful applications made possible by the technology.

This patent protects TIS’ innovative approach to mobile capture that affords users both ease of use and high quality text recognition when capturing documents of any size with only the camera available on most mobile devices. This unique technology for image capture and processing enables automatic extraction of the information with high levels of accuracy. This innovative ability to capture and process multi-page documents anywhere and anytime without any special equipment adds tremendous convenience and value.

TIS will apply this new approach to enhance its existing MobiFLOW platform and the many applications running on the platform, as well as develop new applications that were not possible without this technology. The ability to effectively capture, index and analyze full page forms – such as insurance claims or healthcare forms – opens up a wide realm of potential new use cases that TIS is exploring with its partners and customers.

“We are extremely proud and excited by this important achievement,” remarked Michael Schrader, COO of Top Image Systems. “The patent is further proof of the ingenuity and innovativeness of TIS’ development team; it reinforces our position at the technological forefront of the content capture and processing industry.”

Continued Mr. Schrader, “We introduced the MobiFLOW mobile image processing platform to the market as the next generation of mobile capture, and the addition of our unique capability to recognize documents of any size or length is important IP that significantly amplifies the MobiFLOW value proposition and TIS’ growth potential. I commend our mobile development team on this achievement and look forward to seeing the new applications that will be developed by leveraging this knowhow.”
