New System Streamlines Paper Explanation Of Benefits (EOB) Remittance Processing And Reduces Data Entry Costs

Rising costs and stringent compliance standards present significant challenges forhealthcare providers and third-party billing companies that must process paper explanation of benefits (EOB) forms while maintaining patient privacy. To address these issues, Kodak AlarisandHTI Healthcare, LLC,are now offering an affordable new cloud-based conversion service that reduces the amount of back-office labor and improves the way provider organizations and third-party billing companies manage data while maintaining healthcare transaction compliance.

“Manual posting of claims payment data is timeconsuming, costly and a waste of valuable office resources,” said Sophia Marchi, Director of Sales, Enterprise Solutions for Kodak Alaris. “The new EOB Connect solution from Kodak Alaris and HTI Healthcare removes the challengesassociated with handling paper EOB documents. The result isthat staff members can focus more on patient care.”

Here’s how the process works:

  • Healthcare providers scan EOB remittance documents utilizingKODAK Scanners and KODAK Capture Pro Software to automatically transmit a complete batch via SecureFTP protocol, offeringfull compliance with HIPAA and HITECH security requirements.
  • HTI receives the transmitted batch, converts the secure data into fully compliant X12 835 electronic remittance advice (ERA) files and sends them back to the provider.
  • The provider uploads the ERA filesinto its practice management system.
  • Clients benefit from reduced labor costs and improved business processes.

A video of the complete process is available athttp://bit.ly/1inSLgv. The solution provides fully indexed patient claim “stitched” images—a single image showing only the needed patient claim record, including all required EOB header information to identify the payer. Stitched images are a vast improvement over the outdated redaction process that left large gaps in the content of the document.

“The EOB Connect solutionfeatures local, automated processing that increases operational efficiency by reducing the high volume of manual data entry found in most offices today,” said Chet Guardino, President, HTI Healthcare. “We are able to offer this solution at a price that is affordable to practices of all sizes, creating an opportunity for them that was previously out of their price range.”
