M-Files Recognized As A Sample Vendor In Gartner Hype Cycle For Content Management

Industry Analyst Firm Cites M-Files as a Sample Vendor of "Easy Content Management"

M-Files Corporation, a provider of solutions that dramatically improve how enterprises manage documents and other information, announced that the company was recognized as a Sample Vendor in Gartner's Hype Cycle for Content Management, 2014 as a vendor of "easy content management," an emerging strategic approach to ECM.

According to Gartner’s Hype Cycle for Content Management, 2014, "Easy content management is a strategic approach to ECM technology that allows content to be personalized with foldering, and process needs tailored individually. Repository architectures will move to a metadata-centric, virtual view-based approach. A document can appear in different folders associated with other documents, based on a user's taxonomy and preferences. Each user will have preference metadata associated with the content, allowing contextualized views. Contextualized delivery and mobile-friendly interfaces are core elements."

Gartner gives a benefit rating of “high” to easy content management and describes its business impact as follows: “ECM approaches will enable more flexibility and contextually relevant information. Search, metadata and rule engines will pull content from many locations and applications.”

M-Files provides a superior alternative to the traditional file folder-based approach to ECM by organizing and presenting content based on what it is versus where it has been stored. In M-Files, unique information shows up dynamically wherever and whenever it is needed. In this way, a document or other information asset can be "found" in different locations with no duplication of data, and "folders" are simply a dynamic product of metadata and relationships rather than a static location or container that itself classifies the data. The result is faster access to the precise content users are looking for.

"Our vision is to dramatically improve and simplify how businesses use information, and being recognized by Gartner in the forward-looking Hype Cycle report as a sample vendor of ‘easy content management’ is a very positive indicator that we’re on the right track," said Greg Milliken, vice president of marketing of M-Files Corporation. "The ‘secret sauce’ in our approach is based on harnessing the power of metadata. Most of us have heard the term metadata, or been exposed to it in some form or fashion; it sounds technical and complicated, but in M-Files it’s quite simple and intuitive. To bring the concept home, think of how hundreds of millions of people interact with music on the iPhone; the same unique songs show up how you want them -- by artist, album, genre, or playlist -- without any duplication. Think of Netflix and how it proactively presents movies to you that you didn’t even search for. That’s all powered by metadata, and that’s what M-Files is doing for ECM. It’s intuitive and powerful, and its impact on business is truly transformative."
