Canon U.S.A. Showcases Solutions And Services Aimed To Streamline Workflow Processes And Drive Interoperability For Healthcare Environments At HIMSS 2015

Few industries are undergoing as many challenges as healthcare. Rising costs, the move to electronic health records (EHRs) and concerns about keeping Protected Health Information (PHI) secure, continues to be top priorities for healthcare providers. Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, will demonstrate its integrated document capture systems and mobile solutions at the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society Annual Conference (HIMSS) in Chicago from April 13-15, 2015 in booth #3481. These digital imaging and workflow management solutions are designed to help organizations increase efficiency and help support EHR interoperability, while enhancing security and contributing to overall cost savings for healthcare environments.

“Canon is showcasing a variety of solutions and services at this year’s show that are designed to handle workflow-related challenges in healthcare environments,” said Junichi Yoshitake, senior vice president and general manager, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “Through the use of a variety of our solutions, such as uniFLOW and our new Digital Conversion Service for Healthcare, healthcare providers have the ability to capture and integrate information from legacy charts, mobile devices, and the paper that flows throughout their practice on a day-to-day basis to help improve patient safety, drive productivity and improve the quality of care.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to experience centralized and decentralized scanning solutions that drive efficiency and interoperability in several healthcare settings where information may be created, captured and stored, including a nurse’s station, admissions, records retention and mobile printing.

Nurse’s Station – Canon continues to support the goals of the healthcare industry by helping healthcare professionals create a complete patient workflow process through the inclusion of paper-based clinical document information and the seamless exchange of healthcare information into EHR systems. Canon will showcase how Canon  multifunction printers (MFPs), such as the imageRUNNER ADVANCE C350iF, can not only print and copy healthcare documents, but can also scan and send sensitive patient data for integration into EHR systems and enterprise content management systems (ECM), such as OnBase by Hyland, to easily and securely integrate paper-based patient records. Using uniFLOW, Canon’s unique and exclusive integrated software platform for device and output management, secure printing,  mobile print and advanced scanning, imageRUNNER ADVANCE systems can help expedite document-based processes, reduce costs and enhance workflows of administrative processes necessary for successful healthcare operations, all in a secure environment.

Admissions – For ID card scanning and general document capture needs, the imageFORMULA DR-M160II office document scanner is ideal for hospitals, clinics and doctor’s office admissions areas. Bundled with Kofax VirtualReScan image enhancement software, this widens the scope of capture and output capabilities, thereby increasing the overall quality of documents scanned and how information is organized. Designed for high-speed and high-quality imaging, this scanner can help expedite document-based processes and help increase productivity for healthcare administrators that require large amounts of scanning for patient on-boarding.

Records Retention – To help facilitate the storage of patient files and reduce the costs of hard-copy archiving, Canon will showcase the capabilities of the imageFORMULA DR-G1130 production document scanner, which is ideal for hospitals and doctors’ offices with a large number of patient records. Capable of processing large amounts of documents in centralized scanning environments, this scanner can help in back-file conversion activities or in scanning documents into ECM solutions, like OnBase by Hyland, for interoperability with leading EHR systems.

Mobile Solutions – According to the 3rd Annual HIMSS Analytics Mobile Technology Survey, 83 percent of physicians use mobile technology to provide care. Canon will demonstrate several  solutions that support the use of mobile technology. These include mobile print applications that enable secure printing and tracking, using imageRUNNER ADVANCE systems, help healthcare providers securely and confidently print documents containing sensitive patient information directly from their compatible mobile devices. The imageFORMULA P-215II Scan-tini mobile document scanner will also be demonstrated, which enables physicians and nurses to capture paper-based information wherever they may be. These Canon solutions can help healthcare providers capture, access and send paper-based clinical data quickly and safely.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore the new Digital Conversion Services for Healthcare, offered through Canon Information and Imaging Solutions, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A. Digital Conversion Services are designed to help medical providers improve efficiency of their business operations, facilitate compliance with healthcare regulations related to managing patient information, and promote well-coordinated patient care. The new service includes the digitization of hard copy documents, inventory management of files to help ensure a complete reconciliation process is established, preparation of physical document contents to make them “scan-ready,” and the scanning of the prepared charts, leveraging Canon devices and image software technologies. With the Digital Conversion Services, Canon can help enable healthcare providers to integrate the existing paper files with their EHR systems and spend more time where it really counts –focused on improving quality of care and patient safety.
