Have you ever heard anyone say, "That workflow is just not complicated enough." Rather, usually everyone is looking to take the steps out of workflow. It is important to note that steps and processes are not the same thing. There are processes that must be performed no matter what the workflow. The trick is to perform them with as few steps as possible.
Each step in the workflow adds not only time but also the chance for error. As more and more steps are necessary, more and more risk is added. In any of life's transactions, as we add players and transfers of responsibility along the way, the chance of there being a slip-up or dropping of the ball grows at an exponential rate. Most of us would agree that if we want something done a certain way, the best way to assure that the task is accomplished in the desired way, is to do it ourselves.
