White Paper: Information Privacy Is A Corporate Imperative

In light of well publicized breaches, protecting client data has become more than a necessity; it's a corporate mandate. Laws that govern the handling and security of personal information (including HIPPA, Sarbanes-Oxley, The Patriot Act, and others) carry stiff penalties for violations. Even if penalties from the enforcement agencies are avoided, the damage done to client relationships is often irreparable. With the issue of data protection in the news almost daily, customers' sensitivity to missteps is heightened, and their tolerance wears thin. Protection of client data must therefore be paramount.

Most overseeing agencies require plans to be in place for the prevention of breaches. Documenting plans and procedures once the breach has occurred is not acceptable. Many of the violations can result in serious fines, and not having procedures in place before the mishap only compounds the problem.
