Hyland Software Acquires Liberty Information Management Systems

Hyland Software, the developer of the OnBase® enterprise content management (ECM) software suite, today announced that the company has acquired Liberty Information Management Systems (Liberty IMS). The transaction was private and terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Hyland Software is among the largest and fastest growing independent software vendors in the enterprise content management (ECM) market. By acquiring Liberty IMS Hyland is able to:

  • Add more than 1,000 Liberty IMS client organizations to Hyland's already sizable base of 7,200 customers
  • Extend its reseller channel base with an established network of Liberty IMS channel partners who possess domain expertise in selling and supporting document imaging, COLD/ERM and workflow solutions to organizations in Hyland's target vertical markets
  • Broaden its presence in the western United States and central Canada by maintaining Liberty IMS's offices and an existing team of experienced ECM professionals in Costa Mesa, California and Ottawa, Ontario.

Since 1987, Liberty IMS has secured more than 1,000 implementations of its LibertyNET and LibertyNET Office products in organizations spanning several vertical markets, most notably in state and local government, transportation and logistics, financial services and healthcare. In acquiring Liberty IMS Hyland adds a team of knowledgeable professionals with technical and sales expertise to help organizations optimize their document-centric business processes. Moreover, as a heavily channel-focused organization, Liberty IMS brings to Hyland an established network of channel partners that can help expand Hyland's own network of Authorized OnBase Solutions Providers in key U.S. and Canadian regional markets.

"On behalf of Hyland Software, I welcome the Liberty IMS team, its partners and loyal customers into our community," said A.J Hyland, President and CEO of Hyland Software. "I would especially like to acknowledge the investment and confidence these customers have placed in Liberty IMS to meet their document management needs. Hyland Software is committed to providing them with superior support, service and solutions."

Hyland Software's OnBase is frequently cited by independent industry analysts as a standout product for meeting the transactional content management needs of both small and large enterprises. More importantly, the company and its network of Authorized OnBase Solution Providers have earned industry recognition for the thousands of loyal and satisfied customers that derive great value from OnBase solutions.

"Over the last several years the ECM market has changed dramatically and, during that time, Hyland Software has thrived in a turbulent industry," explained Bruce Malyon, formerly VP of Sales at Liberty IMS who has joined Hyland Software and will oversee the process of integrating Liberty IMS's sales and services operations with Hyland's. "We thank our loyal customers for their years of support and look forward to deepening our relationships with them as new members of one of the most successful and customer-oriented vendors in the ECM industry."

"Liberty IMS and Hyland Software share the same values," said Steve Lehrer, formerly Chief Solutions Officer at Liberty IMS who will be joining Hyland as a senior member of the product team. "Both companies have remained focused on developing solutions driven by customer requirements and not industry hype. Bringing our two companies together will provide our customers and partners with an even broader set of capabilities with which to drive down costs and decrease inefficiencies while improving their business processes."
