This article explores the use of an enterprise content management (ECM) repository for managing large volumes of information, using medical records management as an example. You need to identify the proper content, organize that content, create an indexing scheme, and provide for governance over materials that are placed in the repository. In addition, along with the electronic health or medical record itself, you need to provide centralized viewing for all patient information, including scanned paper documents and other images or electronic content. Workflow must also be enabled to allow the automated routing of critical clinical information and processes.
