One of BASF's most recent technological innovations evolved from a need to improve access to employee personnel folders. The Human Resources department (HR) is located at the corporate headquarters in Ludwigshafen, where there are more than 300 human resources professionals in-house; however, they are spread out among thirty-six separate offi ces.
The document capture system of the HR department of BASF in Ludwigshafen has been designed to accommodate the company's specifi c needs. InputAccel, running on one server, uses the following process:
- Scan—Kodak 500D for high volume A4, and a Bell and Howell 5000F for all other paper
- Image Enhancement—pages are fi ltered through this module for noise removal, deskewing, and lines fi lters
- Export—The data is then exported to IBM VisualInfo, with connectivity to Lotus Notes and also to SAP R/3 (via a custom program interface)
